About
Project ATTRACT
Attract
Project aim
The ATTRACT project proposes an innovative solution for future “smart” buildings by offering a decentralized clean water production system integrated into the building envelope.
The solar energy will be collected from the building structure to be used to generate heat for water production, targeting residential areas affected by water scarcity. The main objective is to develop a technology inspired by vertical multi-effect diffusion desalination solar stills (VMEDSS), using sustainable and cost-effective materials for prototype fabrication.
attract
The project is driven by a strong commitment and ambition to address climate challenges and meet Europe's needs.
Motivation
Currently, over 5 billion people worldwide live in regions suffering from water scarcity or lack access to safe and clean water, while approximately 3 billion people do not have access to proper sanitation. Moreover, the current trend in climate change conditions is exposing threats to water resources in less vulnerable areas such as Europe.
Ambition
The project will demonstrate that ATTRACT is a high-productive design over other technologies and must be considered a leading technology among other decentralized water production systems. The final product should have the highest compatibility with the European building architecture, displaying a new façade design for dwellings with the minimum retrofitting cost.
ATTrACT
The novelty of the attract project is the building integration, which reduces the reliance of the residents on centralized potable water resources
